🏫🙋🏻Meet EA Koç!

EA Koç University, which has introduced many people to Effective Altruism through the events it has organized since its founding in the 2023 fall semester, is an active university community in Turkey. To learn more about its events or get in touch, you can visit its Instagram account.

The most recent event organized by EA Koç University is ‘Peter Singer’s Greatest Goodness Book Reading Group’. In this event, participants are divided into groups and a discussion environment is provided where individuals are listened to with respect and tolerance.

📖 Peter Singer’s “The Life You Can Save” Book

Peter Singer’s book ‘The Life You Can Save’, one of the most influential books written on global poverty, focuses on the problem(s) that concern us all in today’s world and for which we are all responsible. PDF version of the book “The Life You Can Save: Ways to Do Your Part to End Global Poverty”, which was brought to our literature by a translation team of 15 people consisting of Bilkent University students, graduates and Effective Altruism Turkey members. You can download it for free.


👨🏽‍💻Effective Altruism Virtual Programs - EA Entry Program

In this free, online 8-week program, anyone from anywhere in the world can learn the basic principles of Effective Altruism and think deeply about how we can do the most good with the limited resources we have.

👩🏼‍💻Effective Altruism Virtual Programs - In-Depth EA Program

What should I value morally? Should I focus on short-term impact or long-term impact? How can I take into account the indirect effects of my actions? How should I plan my career? If these questions make you think, you can apply to the online In-Depth Effective Altruism Program, an 8-week program with weekly 1.5-hour discussions in groups of 4-8 participants led by a facilitator.

📖 Effective Altruism Virtual Programs - “The Precipice” Reading Group

The book “The Precipice” examines the science behind risks facing humanity, such as nuclear weapons, climate change, engineered pandemics, and misaligned artificial intelligence. By participating in this online 8-week reading group, you can deepen your knowledge of protecting humanity’s future and learn what steps can be taken against these dangers.

Global Challenges Project - Existential Risks Workshop

This workshop, which will be held in Berkeley between September 13 and 16, offers the opportunity to explore the existential risks facing humanity, think critically with other participants about how to act on these problems, and listen to the career journeys of professionals working in these fields.

EAGx Berlin Conference

By attending this conference in Berlin, which will take place between September 13 and 15, you can connect with effective altruism communities around the world, attend workshops and talks, speak with people who have similar interests or career paths, and deepen your connection to Effective Altruism.

What exactly is Effective Altruism? What exactly does being an “Effective Altruist” mean? In this issue, we wanted to include two articles that give opposite answers to these questions. In the first article, Helen Toner argues that effective altruism should actually be about the question: “How can I do the most good using the resources I have?” rather than a set of principles or ideas.

James Fodor, on the other hand, argues that Effective Altruism is much more than a question, it corresponds to an ideology or belief system. Finally, let us leave you with the articles by stating that James Fodor did not say this from a critical point of view!
